Registration Number Transfers
There are various different types of transfers of personalised number plates , here we will try to cover the most common.
Vehicle to Vehicle Transfers The original type of transfer . Fee is £80 .
Retention System Transfers Transfers involving just one car and a certificate. Fee is £105.
Certificate of Entitlement Transfers Similar to the above but number is previously unissued.
Rules common to all transfers -
You cannot make your vehicle look younger than is is, for example if your car is "T" registration you cannot transfer onto it a V,W,X,Y prefix or any of the newstyle numbers.
Vehicles must be taxed and tested ( if the vehicle is old enough to require MOT ). In certain circumstance a transfer may be acceptable if the tax expired ( not cashed in ) less than 6 months ago.
Vehicles must be available for inspection , if you sell your car before removing the number , technically the new owner can claim your number.
Vehicles with " Q " plates are excluded.
Vehicles not requiring MOT are excluded ( e.g tractors , milk floats ).
Vehicles having a V5C stamped "Non-transferrable registration mark" cannot donate their registration number , they can however receive a personalised number plate.
